Discover Phillip Island
|
|
Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia, is located in the mouth of Westernport Bay and is 140 Kilometres South East of Melbourne CBD.
The island has an area of about 10,000 Hectares, and the landscape is slightly undulating with the highest point being Cape Woolamai at 109 metres (357 ft) above sea level.
The island has approximately 101 kilometres (60 miles) of coastline with the southern and part of the west coast being exposed to the open ocean, Bass Strait,
giving us some of the best surf beaches in Australia.
The north and eastern coastline is situated in Westernport Bay with many calm and safe swimming beaches while a number of inlets contain mangrove flats.
|
|
|
Access to Phillip Island is via a bridge between San Remo, on the mainland, and Newhaven on Phillip Island.
Phillip Island has a number of natural attractions to visit, of which the Penguin Parade is one of the most popular and well known of these.
The worlds largest colony of Australian Fur Seal colony can be found on a rocky outcrop, known as Seal Rocks, about one kilometre off Prom Coasts coastline.
Koalas can be viewed at the Koala Conservation Centre, while kangaroos wallabies and possums are fairly abundant around Phillip Island.
The wetlands and bush areas on Phillip Island are home to an abundance of birds, while many
migratory birds nest on the island during certain times of the year.

Australia is the largest island on earth and is also the driest continent and thus much of this great country consists of dry baron land.
Although Australia has a diverse range of great holiday destination in all parts of the country, the southern region from Sydney to Perth is by far the most condensed and diverse in Australia.
The region has some of the best beaches in the world, great snow fields, temperate rain forests, deserts, mountains, rivers, lakes, unrivalled scenery, as well as a large number of man made and natural attractions.
